Psalms 34
I love King David and the book of Psalms. Whether I am rejoicing, crying, hurting, disappointed, dismayed, discouraged, inspired or excited, I can always find a Psalm that speaks to my heart. Maybe because David was a warrior and a worshipper, two things that I can really relate to...whatever the reason, I love the writer and the book.
I love the fact that I can find scriptures from thousands of years ago that relate to me and any situation that I may be facing in 2010. Imagine that?! It baffles the mind to think of how things have advanced since the time of Jesus. Can you imagine life before television, telephones, cell phones, laptops and computers? Yet, His Word has stood the test of time and is still able to transform lives. The Word of God is living and is powerful to save to the utmost (Hebrews 4:12). Hallelujah!
As I began to write this morning one of my favorite Psalms rose up in my spirit. Before I knew it I was speaking, and eventually writing out the whole Psalm. In this Psalm, David was expressing the faithfulness of the Lord and showing the comparison between the plight of the wicked and of those that belong to God. The words spoke to my heart so, and reminded me just how much my Father loves us, his people. He loves us more than our finite minds can comprehend. He is always thinking of us and will move the heavens on our behalf. Even when it seems that He is distance and seemingly have forgotten us, He is yet being faithful to us.
I often tell people when I’m counseling, “Just because you don’t see God moving doesn’t mean that He isn’t moving. He is always working things for your good.” After all the Word of God tells us that we know in part and we prophesy in part (I Corinthians 13:9). Only the Father God knows the whole story. Only He knows the beginning from the end. And although He gives us glimpses of our future at times, only He really knows the final results.
The Father also knows that we are weak and that we are often times afraid, discouraged and even impatient with Him. That’s why He has given us His Word and the Holy Spirit to help us. It is in the Word of God that we can find answers for those times of fear, discouragement and impatience. The Holy Spirit, our Paraclete, is waiting to guide and direct us to the Word of God for edification, exhortation, comfort, and sometimes, for correction. All we need to do is ask. I dare you to read His Word and seek Him today. Then, watch and see the transforming power of the Word of God.
I have so many scriptures that I meditate on regularly: Old and New Testament. These scriptures have walked me through many seasons of my life. I am so thankful for the Word of God. My prayer today is that you will take time to read your bible today. Ask the Holy Spirit to give you a scripture specifically for you and your situation. You will be amazed at the accuracy of the Spirit of God. God really does know your heart. When you cry out to Him, He will answer. Until then, I pray that this Psalm blesses you as it did me this morning.
Psalms 34
I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.
My soul shall make her boast in the LORD: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad.
O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together.
I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.
They looked unto him, and were lightened: and their faces were not ashamed.
This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.
The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them.
O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.
O fear the LORD, ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him.
The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing.
Come, ye children, hearken unto me: I will teach you the fear of the LORD.
What man is he that desireth life, and loveth many days, that he may see good?
Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile.
Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.
The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry.
The face of the LORD is against them that do evil, to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth.
The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles.
The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.
Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.
He keepeth all his bones: not one of them is broken.
Evil shall slay the wicked: and they that hate the righteous shall be desolate.
The LORD redeemeth the soul of his servants: and none of them that trust in him shall be desolate.
